Freight Broker Authority

A Freight Broker is an individual, partnership, or corporation that receives payment for arranging the transportation of property (excluding household goods) belonging to others by using an authorized Motor Carrier. A Broker does not assume responsibility for the property and never takes possession of it.

In order for a broker authority to become active the applicant must have an MC (Broker) Number; a USDOT number; a BOC 3, list of Process Agents; a UCR, Unified Carrier Registration. The applicant is also required and responsible for the filing of $75,000 surety bond.
